After succumbing to the lurgy and being wiped out earlier in the month, my 2023 finally got under way on Friday 13th when I met a friend in Bristol for a 24 hour adventure that encompassed shopping, good food and the “Jersey Boys” musical – great music and a fascinating story of how creativity can free people from the toughest of beginnings to soar.
Just as the spiked thistle blooms a vivid violet flower and achingly soft thistledown before it fades, I am hoping that the inauspicious start to the year will bring unexpected delights before it is out. Some I can plan in, others I can prepare for so that I am ready when they arise, some I can only enjoy if I protect the time I need for them, and some will be surprised born in the blue or out of difficulty.
